Here’s another experimental film of a different genre. Usually it is always a woman who is shown going ballistic with insecurity over her man. But what if the case was reversed. So here we have Mithilesh Shukla (Rajpal Yadav) a short and cute librarian of a university. Suffering from an inferiority complex, Shukla has decided he will never tie the knot. But somehow he gives into family pressure and agrees to go to Bareilly to look for a bride. There he meets the beautiful Rituparno Sengupta and falls hook, line and sinker in love with her. But there’s a hitch—tall bride, short groom! He wonders if she will say yes to the marriage. But surprisingly she does! Thus begins Shukla’s journey on keeping his beautiful wife away from all the attention that she gets. He fights with the neighbourhood louts, argues with the vegetable vendor if he spends more time giving the vegetables to her and keeps her away from all things that will be attracted to her.
The situation gets worse for Shukla when her handsome friend (Kay Kay) walks into their life. Poor Shukla now tries to hook them together coz he knows who is the suitable groom. The scenes here are so touching! Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh show how Shukla copes with this extraordinary situation. UTV and director Chandan Arora need to given full credit for attempting a subject of this genre. Hindi films seem to be definitely coming of age. Also Chandan has shot the film with utmost honesty. There is no superficiality to it. Rituparno Sengupta is beautiful and pitches in a sincere performance. But the highlight of the film is Rajpal Yadav. He is simply superb! Watch it because it is different!
