After raking rich returns at the box-office and having won the national award last year, Vinod Chopra'sMUNNABHAI M.B.B.S is now headed for Hollywood, with Fox Movies signing an exclusive contract for re-making the film in English for the international audiences. The English titled GANGSTER M D, will be directed by Mira Nair, with Chopra co-producing the film.
According to Sam Fernandes, C.O.O of Vinod Chopra Productions, it was Mira Nair who approached Fox and inquired about the possibility of re-making the film in English. "Mira Nair was bowled over by the film from day one and suggested this idea to Fox. The Fox officials found the film equally interesting. They in turn approached us for re-making the film in English with Hollywood stars. Vinod Chopra was more than pleased to accept the offer," Fernandes reveals.
He further adds that there will be no change in the story and the original script of the film. "Also Vinod Chopra will be creatively involved in the film besides co-producing it," he says.
The film will be released through Fox Entertainment Group's 20th Century Fox. Incidentally, this is the first time an Indian film will be re-made by Hollywood for an international audience.
